In the spring of 1934, the army leadership decided on the participation of Czechoslovak pilots in the international aerobatic competition Coupe Mondial, which was to be held in June in Paris. Under the leadership of ing. Novotny and with the help of acrobats rtm. Novák and Sgt. Ambruz, a new aerobatic aircraft B-222 was created in six weeks.

According to the army's request for an airplane designed for aerobatics training, the Avia Bš-122 airplane was constructed. MNO ordered 45 units in 1936. Compared to the Ba.122, the Bš-122 had stepped wings, a different fuselage and tail surfaces.
