3 decal version
The design requirement was given to the Tachikawa Hikoki Kabushiki Kaisha factory, where three prototypes were eventually built, two of which were flown. After the war, they were transported to the USA and probably tested. However, the all-wooden structure also brought disadvantages that had to be solved, the main problem was the insufficient strength of the structure and the greater weight of the aircraft. Therefore, the wing cannons were removed from the next prototype. In Tachikawa, the task was entrusted to Eng. Moriyuki Nakagawa and Eng. Shinagawa, both designers traveled to Burma, where they examined the structure of the downed DH.98 Mosquito and upon their return, they began working on the all-wooden structure of the Ki-106. Several prototypes were built, one of which was taken to the USA for examination.
