In February, the Italian government ordered a zero series of 18 units and a subsequent 750 units, but these were never produced. The second prototype, already tested by the Luftwaffe since spring 1943, reached a speed of 720 km/h. Deliveries of the RE.2005 began in May 1943 with licensed Fiat RA.1050 RC-58 engines with a power of 1475 hp. After the capitulation of Italy, the manufactured units were confiscated by the Luftwaffe, several aircraft served with the Berlin air defense units.
